Sermon Title: "The 10 Commandments"
Bible Verses: Exodus 20:2-17
- Take Home Cards - These small cards can be printed out on card stock and given
to the children to take home for practicing their 10 Commandments.
- Hang 10 - String a rope or place 10 hooks on the wall. Print out the 10
commandments without any numbers on them and have the children hang them on the line in
order with cloths pins or plastic
spiral cord key chain. This can be done as a relay or set a timer. The cards could be
laminated to give them extra strength.

- Verse Recall - Have each child draw a card and recite the verse that goes with
the picture or number. If you put both the numbers and pictures in the same pile it might
make it more challenging.
- Concentration - Lay all the cards face down and have each child take a turn at
turning 2 cards over. If the cards match they get to keep the cards and go again. If the
cards do not match then it is the next child's turn.
- Picture Match - Paint the numbers 1 - 10 on the wall or a piece of cardboard.
Print off the large 10 commandment pictures on
overhead sheets and attack a Velcro® strip to the picture and the number on the wall. Take
turns matching the picture to the corresponding number and reciting the commandment that
goes with it.

- Dice Game - Divide children into two or three teams. Have enough cards so each
child will have a complete set. Each child rolls two dice. If they roll an 11 it will act
as a one, If they roll a 12 it is a wild card and they can choose any card they need. We
decorated envelopes to put the cards in after they won them. Depending on the size of your
class you will need 2 or 3 sets of dice.
- Balancing Act Use this for the 3rd commandment.“You shall not misuse the name of
the Lord” This teaches the children to be careful with God’s name. Have the children carry
an egg in a spoon to the back of the room. To demonstrate use a raw egg and let it fall and
break. The eggs the children are using can be hard boiled but they will think they are raw.
If you are brave enough you could use raw eggs. When we did this none of the children
dropped their egg.
- Busy, Busy, Busy Use this for the 4th commandment. “Remember the Sabbath and
keep it Holy.” Blow up 4 or 5 balloons and write a different activity a child might do
during the day on the balloon. Example: watch TV, school, eat, play, etc. Have one or 2
children try and keep all the balloons in the air at the same time. Then give the child one
balloon with God written on it. They only need to keep that one balloon up in the air. How
easy was it to keep only one balloon in the air. During the week we work hard to keep all
the balloons floating but on the Sabbath we rest and only focus on God. Hint- if you want
to make this more challenging put a small rock or bead in one or two of the balloons.
